Ecological Surveys

Kylie, a conservation biologist and ecologist, holds a BSc (Hons) in Conservation Biology and an MA in Anthrozoology. Her extensive fieldwork spans terrestrial and aquatic (freshwater and marine) surveys across multiple countries, including the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Dominica, Guyana, the United Kingdom, and Spain.

Alongside her fieldwork, Kylie has earned a PADI Open Water certification and completed specialized training in diving surveys. She has conducted independent research projects and is experienced in writing reports.

With hands-on experience in surveying various habitats and species, Kylie is proficient in a range of methods. Outlined below are just a few of the survey methods she has proficiency in. Her experience in avian studies includes the application of mist nets, banding, and point counts. Expanding her surveying efforts to bats, Kylie has utilized mist nets and detectors, in addition to bat box checks. She has also begun to practice utilizing an endoscope to inspect bat boxes. Furthermore, she has experience conducting emergence surveys. To study other mammal species, Kylie has used a diverse array of techniques, including the use of camera traps, nest boxes, and trapping methods. When studying invertebrates, Kylie has utilized sweep netting, pit-fall traps, kick sampling, and light traps. In her exploration of marine environments, Kylie has employed various techniques, including 3D modeling of coral reefs and underwater marine transects and quadrats.
